Schepers: First laser worldwide for direct texturing of rotative embossing forms
Vreden: In the past few months Schepers in Vreden installed the first laser worldwide for direct texturing of rotative embossing forms at 4Packaging in Germany.
By means of this laser unit rotative, two- or three-dimensional embossing forms for the cigarette or folded box industry are directly produced in aluminium and copper. Up to now rotative embossing forms are manufactured mechanically by means of milling machines or by using the etching technique. The application “Digilas Embossing Direct” offers completely new possibilities in quality and productivity. According to a company’s press release, the printing forms, and the embossing forms respectively, can be produced up to three times faster by using the new technology - and this at even lower operating costs.
Up to now this technology has been unknown in the market. Schepers said that the laser technology applied was absolutely state of the art and resulted from constant research and development.
According to the management of “4Packaging”, the main reason for the investment was to supply this attractive market quickly and at a reasonable price.
4Packaging said that by means of this laser unit cylinders made of metals as aluminium, copper, brass and steel could be textured without melting – and this up to a material removal of about 1000 my. For special applications, depths of far beyond 1000 my could be reached.
Additional markets
Furthermore, thanks to this technology, Schepers GmbH & Co. KG opens up new markets. By means of the Digilas décor texturing, leather imitation, all kinds of technical embossings can be engraved directly into metals. Thus, in the medium and in the long term the prospects for Schepers in Vreden are very good.
In March 2010 the laser unit was installed at 4P Packaging and already today this new technology is successfully used in operation.
At present two further machines have been sold whereof one machine is already in the final assembly.
